Accessibility

The Guildhall as a whole has very limited accessibility but the ATOM workshops are always booked into the Roysse Room which has level access from outside. From the pavement on Bridge Street there is paved access to the doors facing the lawn, which are sliding automatic doors. Entering the Roysse Foyer, turn right to access the double door entrance to the Roysse Room. There are disabled toilet facilities in the corridor behind the Roysse Room.

Parking and Dropping Off

There is no parking at the Guildhall. There is a dropping off space reached by car from Abbey Close. This is in front of the cinema steps, just by the archway which links the Guildhall to the church. If you have been dropped off here you need to walk under the arch. On reaching Bridge Street ahead of you, turn left and left again to come round the building and find the Roysse entrance doors facing the lawn. (Level access from drop off point to doors.)

The nearest car parks are Abbey Close, Cattle Market and the car park in front of the Council offices. Both are reached by turning off The Vineyard at the traffic lights opposite the garage, where the signs say "superstore". Abbey Close is then the turning on the right (follow the road right to the end) or the other two car parks are just ahead.

There is more information about the town centre car parks on the webpages of the District Council here.

Travelling to us

Walking from anywhere in the Town Centre

The Guildhall is opposite the Market Place where High Street, Bridge Street and Stert Street meet. If you are at Hales Meadow or Rye Farm or coming from Culham direction, simply continue over the bridge and walk up Bridge Street until you see the lawn facing Lewis Baker shop. The entrance you need is the one facing the lawn.

If you are on Ock Street head into the town centre (Eastwards) and if you are on Stert Street head South, walking past the church clock, past the archway and turning left into the lawned courtyard.

If you are in Abbey Close, walk under the ancient archway by the church and round the building by turning left and left again to find the lawned courtyard. Walking from Stratton Way is covered in the Public Transport section below.

Public Transport

Abingdon does not have a railway station.

Buses stop on Stratton Way from most directions including Oxford. As you step off the bus facing the railings and bus shelters, turn right to walk a few yards to the crossing point of the road. Cross over and walk straight ahead past the Town Council notice board into Bath Street. Take the second left turn to enter Bury Street shopping precinct and turn right to walk down Bury Street to the end where it meets the Market Place. Turn left and walk along the edge of the Market Place to the small archway between the shops to find a crossing point across Stert Street. After crossing turn right and walk past the church and the archway and then turn left into the lawned courtyard.

Cycling

Follow the marked cycle-ways around the town centre. Do not ride your cycle on Bury Street or in the Market Place.

If travelling by car from the A34 (south side) - Didcot/Reading/M4

Warning: Abingdon Town Centre is a 20mph zone
Exit the A34 at the (Abingdon S) Marcham Interchange with the A415 and follow signs for Abingdon Town Centre.
Proceed for approximately one mile crossing three roundabouts, to be eventually turned left at the traffic lights by Coxeter House. Follow around the curve of Stratton Way and choose the left lane before the lights. Then pass on to a second set of lights where you turn right (signposted "superstore") to enter Abbey Close then follow instructions in Parking and Dropping Off section above.

If travelling from Dorchester-on-Thames/Culham/Stadhampton side on the A415

Warning: Abingdon Town Centre is a 20mph zone
Coming from this direction it is advisable to use the car parks just before the bridge (Rye Farm or Hales Meadow) and walk across the bridge. Keeping the car on this side of the bridge can save you many minutes negotiating the Abingdon one-way system. Your walk to the Guildhall is less than five minutes - continue straight up Bridge Street until you reach the lawned courtyard opposite Lewis Baker shop.

If travelling by car from the A34 (north side) - Oxford/Bicester/M40 north

Warning: Abingdon Town Centre is a 20mph zone

Exit the A34 using Lodge Hill interchange (Abingdon N) and follow town centre signs. After passing Tesco Express there is a mini roundabout with a road coming in from the left. Continue straight into Vineyard until you reach a garage on your right. Turn left at the lights following the "superstore" sign for parking in the Abbey Close and Cattle Market car parks. See Parking and Dropping Off section above for more details.
