New Discovery

Probably the most exciting thing that can happen at a Heritage Festival is for the events to be a catalyst for bringing to light a new artefact. As the publicity for the 2019 Heritage Festival began to reach out to the town and beyond, an email came in from someone who said they had an interesting picture we might like to see...and soon these photos arrived. It may be of the troop who were encamped near the river for a while during the war. More details will be posted shortly.

Warland Andrew

The Royal Thames Studio of Warland Andrew often seems to have been the source of photographs taken in Abingdon in this period. Was he the enthusiast who stood behind the cameras and filmed the town on the day of the parade?
On the mount the studio claims to be patronized by the King and there is a fascinating pencil note on the back "Mr Tillman - to be called for N.P."
